Colombo has a long history as a port on ancient east-west trade routes, ruled successively by the Portuguese, Dutch and British. That heritage is reflected in its architecture, mixing colonial buildings. A number of the old buildings that constituted Colombo in her colonial heyday are still standing. They are landmarks that evoke nostalgia for an era when Colombo was a bustling, cosmopolitan babel of a port city. The millers Cargills Building, the town hall in Colombo, and the dutch period museum are some colonial architectures to name a few.

Negombo is a city on the western coast near Katunayaka International airport. The place has many tourist attractions and it's a suitable place to start and end the tour.
